Causes of Hearing Loss in Children
Children can suffer from two kinds of hearing loss, namely Sensorineural and Conductive hearing loss.
With sensorineural hearing loss, it is either sensory (cochlea part of the ear) or the auditory pathways to the brain (neural) are not working properly. This kind of hearing loss is treatable but permanent. It can be treated by hearing aids / hearing instruments or possibly cochlea implants.
With Conductive hearing loss, the middle and outer ear are affected by something (earwax, swimmer’s ear, foreign objects or a middle ear infection). They are all medically treatable.
